Anorexia Tips

Only fun going out to eat? Go to a farmer's market and buy fresh fruit! It's always fun, and gets rid of many excuses. for not eating right.

Instead of buying food, buy yourself flowers! Food is depressing, but flowers make you happy!

Exchange a bad habit for a good one - f.i., my boyfriend exchanged smoking for jogging every morning. This may be hard, but VERY rewarding if you can do it! Exchange eating for yoga, or meditation, or reading more.

Make yourself nauseas! You won't eat!

Think higher or yourself! You're too good to put THAT in your body!

Plan you goal out to the letter, then write out your plan for the day you reach your goal. What will you do first What will you buy???

Save the money you would have spent on that meal in a jar. Lunch cost .74? Save it in a bottle instead and watch it grow!

Subscribe to magazines! / year for great thinspiration delivered to your door every month! I suggest Vogue, InStyle, and Cosmo.

Buy thin clothes, Keep them hanging in your closet next to your regular clothes & torture over the fact you can't get into them!

Eat vicariously. Watch other people eat, and feel superior!!! You don't need that food. They are feeding their fat bodies and they're getting fatter!!! You can see then growing!!! How repulsive.

Hot water: makes you feel warm and full inside.

Make a notebook of thinspiration - notes, letters, thoughts and especially PICTURES of your goal!

Become active in a cause - food related is even better! Go veggie and spend your eating time being an activist! Try these places:

Bulimia Tips (Submitted by various visitors)

1.) drink water half an hour before you eat, and take a sip every few bites as well - drink enough, but not too too much water, or other fluid while you eat. it helps food come up easier!
2.) Things like ice cream come up easily. Roughage doesn't! [list of safe/not safe b/p foods]
3.) Stick two or three fingers (or a toothbrush works if you get it right) down your throat as far as possible, move them around a bit. DO NOT pull out as soon as you start to gag, leave them there until your body won't let you any longer, otherwise you'll only gag and then it gets harder every try! (this is what I didn't do!)
4.) Trigger pics!
5.) Don't brush right after! The acid rots your teeth, and brushing imbeds it further - rinse w/ mouthwash, and wait at least an hour to brush
6.) You know when your done when you bring up less and less, and then eventually nothing. You will begin to taste the acid. After a while you can pretty much judge how much vomit is in there, by how much you ate
7.) If you take meds/vitamins, take in the am, cause you could vomit them up.
8.) If you vomit a little blood, stop. I have done this for years, and have never seen blood.
9.) Purge asap after eating. after an hour, and that's the upper limit, don't even bother, you have already absorbed the calories
10.) A big amount of food comes up better than a little, something to do with the pressure in your intestines
11.) Never never use ipecac. never: because you don't just throw up, it makes you violently sick, and can cause sudden cardiac death, even the first time you use it, without warning. It is designed for incidences where poison has been ingested, and the situation is controlled, as in the risks of the person dying from the poison outweigh those of the Ipecac. Just try to use your fingers, the first times are hard, but it gets easier....

10 ESSENTIAL VITAMINS AND MINERALS
Beta carotene is converted in the body to vitamin A, essential for good immunity. Low levels predict higher risks of cancer, heart disease, infections. Overcooking cuts vitamin A.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST BETA CAROTENE:
Carrots, parsley, fresh and canned pumpkin, spinach, kale, sweet potato. Liver (beef, pork, chicken) is nutrient- dense in retinol, or preformed vitamin A.

Vitamin C. A strong antioxidant. Deficiency is linked to increased colds and infections, cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma, infertility in men and overall higher death rates. Best: Eat raw or microwave.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST VITAMIN C:
Sweet red and green peppers, guava, bok choy (cabbage), broccoli, kale, cauliflower.

Vitamin B6. More vital than ever because of its recently discovered powers against homocysteine, a blood protein that promotes artery-clogging. A lack of B6 is linked to increased heart attacks, strokes, depression. Some B6 is lost in canning and cooking.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST B6:
Spinach, fresh tuna, broccoli, bananas, sauerkraut, Brussels sprouts. (Also rich, but not as low-cal: poultry, meat, most seafood, prunes, sunflower seeds, potatoes.)

Vitamin B12. Critical in maintaining normal brain and nervous system functioning. As you age, the ability to absorb vitamin B12 from food is often impaired; you may need supplements. Significant amounts of B12 are found only in animal foods. Little is lost in cooking.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST B12:
Clams, beef liver, oysters, crab, liver sausage or braunschweiger, salmon. (Also rich, but not as low-cal: tuna and skim milk.) Vegans need supplements.

Folic acid. Exciting new research says it helps fight heart disease, strokes, cancer, depression, loss of mental acuity and birth defects. It's crucial in fighting artery-clogging homocysteine. Deficiencies, especially in women, are common. Easily destroyed by heat.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST FOLIC ACID:
Spinach, turnip and mustard greens, chicken livers, asparagus, okra, Brussels sprouts. (Also rich, but not as low-cal: dried beans, almonds, wheat germ.)

Calcium. A well-known protector of bones. Also tied to less high blood pressure and colon cancer. Eating calcium-rich foods, especially when young, helps maximize bone mass, warding off crippling osteoporosis in later life.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST CALCIUM:
Collard greens, kale, broccoli, plain non-fat yogurt, skim milk, Parmesan cheese. (Also rich, but not as low-cal: canned sardines and canned salmon with bones.)

Potassium. Helps keep the lid on high blood pressure and strokes. In studies, diets low in potassium boosted blood pressure 4 percent (more when salt intake was high) and doubled or tripled risk of fatal strokes. Cooking, canning destroy some potassium. Also, is a key mineral in electrolyte balance.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST POTASSIUM:
Beet greens, bok choy (cabbage), spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and tomato juice, beets. (Also rich, but not as low-cal: dried fruits, avocado, white potatoes, sardines, poultry.)

Zinc. Essential for immune functioning, especially as you age. A marginal lack can mildly impair mental functioning, including memory, new research shows.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST ZINC:
Oysters, wheat bran and germ, crab meat, lean beef, spinach, calves' liver. (Also rich: nuts, turkey, pork, dried beans.)

Magnesium. Protects against heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, research indicates. Magnesium-deprived animals age rapidly. About three-fourths of Americans have magnesium-deficient diets.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST MAGNESIUM:
Spinach, wheat bran, beet greens, broccoli, okra, bean curd or tofu. (Also rich, but not as low-cal: fish, dried beans, nuts.)

Selenium. Research is uncovering broad new powers: It may help keep viruses in check, block cancer, boost immunity, reduce heart disease, relieve depression.

FOODS WITH FEWEST CALORIES, MOST SELENIUM:
Brazil nuts, tuna fish, sunflower seeds, whole grains, garlic, clams.
